PlayWrite 2009
For its eighth season, Brian Haney will take a company of students through the PlayWrite process: select and develop a theme, write or collect material, and present the ensemble’s work in an original production on a local stage. The results are sometimes provocative, but always rewarding for both actors and audiences. In past PlayWrite productions, students have given voice to their visions of the world, addressing such themes such as the human body, belief, exploring the world through the works of the Brothers Grimm and Shakespeare or even unexpected topics such as the Periodic Table of elements.
As always, PlayWrite 2009 will address a brand new theme devised by the students in the workshop. PlayWrite offers a unique opportunity for its students to collaborate in developing their ideas, transforming them , as a team , into a finished piece of theatrical art. Together, they use workshops to define and expand the themed material, refine their skills as writers and actors, and so build an ensemble based on trust and mutual support – an environment in which their individual and collaborative abilities can find true expression. Theatre-in-the-Making’s commitment to ensemble acting means that everyone participates and everyone’s voice is heard in PlayWrite’s final production. Theatre-in-the-Making is accepting registrations now. PlayWrite 2009 is offered to students ages 13 and up. Classes begin on January 5, 2009, meeting Mondays from 4-6pm. On the week of February 23, an additional day, Wednesday, will be added (4-6pm). On April 6, one month from performances, the workshop will increase its rehearsal schedule and meet Monday through Thursday from 4-6pm.
