Laurel holds a BA in performance pedagogy and community cultural development from Hampshire College. She is currently a MA candidate in Theatre Education and Outreach at the University of New Mexico, where she is the Graduate Assistant to the P.L.A.C.E. (Partnership for Learning through Arts and Community Education) Program in the College of Fine Arts, and teaches an undergraduate course on Theatre for Education and Social Change. She is the Director of the ActorInside Program for residents of the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center, and the Artistic Director of the Street Theatre Brigade. As a performer, Laurel has trained with the Circo Picolino School of Circus Arts in Salvador, Brasil; the National Cuban Union of Writers and Artists (UNEAC) in Havana, Cuba; Double Edge Theatre; The Royal Frog Ballet; and Sandglass Puppet Theatre at Theatre Grottesco. As a theatre educator, she has taught for Rocky Mountain Theatre for Kids, Enchanted Circle Theatre, the Idyllwild Arts Academy Summer Program (where she is the Director of the MultiArts Children's Theatre), the National Hispanic Cultural Center, Explora Children's Museum, and Working Classroom. |
